Winter sports in Bansko: the largest ski resort in the Balkans

Bansko All Season Resort is very attractive to tourists in both summer and winter. But the high season is of course in winter, when tourists from all over come to ski in this beautiful resort.
And that is not surprising, because Bansko has been known for years as the largest and best ski resort in Bulgaria and the Balkans!

The snow guarantee is always high, meaning there is enough snow for almost the entire winter for wonderful skiing.
However, this is something different in the valley. It is often green here in winter and there is 'only' snow for a few weeks per year.

There are also often long queues at the Gondola lift that goes from the town to the ski slopes. Compared to resorts in the Alps, this lift is outdated and needs to be replaced.

There have been plans for this for years, but this has so far been stopped by environmental organizations and activists.
Replacing this lift will be essential for the resort.

Despite this, it is still a beautiful resort where skiing is always enjoyable for young and old. There are several slopes of all different levels (blue, red and black) available.
There are also several ski schools and children's slopes available where children can learn to ski safely.
In addition, it is very cheap compared to Alpine countries!

The resort consists of more than 70 km of slopes and several chair lifts. It is known for its good piste condition and the FIS Ski World Cup is regularly organized in Bansko.

But Bansko is not the only ski resort in the area. There are also Dobrinishte, Semkovo and Kulinoto. These areas are much smaller and less popular than Bansko, so you can ski in peace and quiet in the vast nature of the Pirin and Rila.

But you can also ski in other areas in Bulgaria if you don't want to go to Bansko, such as Pamporovo, Borovets and Vitosha.

Enjoy the vast and unspoilt nature and breathtaking mountains

The mountains around Bansko are breathtakingly beautiful. In every street of Bansko and the surrounding villages you have a view of the mountains of the Pirin, Rila and the Rhodopes.
These are beautiful nature reserves with high mountains and beautiful vast nature. The Rila Mountains are home to Bulgaria's highest mountain: Musala.
In addition, in the Pirin Mountains you have beautiful peaks such as the Todorka (known as the piste mountain of Bansko), the Vihren and many more, such as The Seven Rila Lakes. These are seven fairytale mountain lakes that you can hike to all year round.

There are many hiking trails, mountain huts and mountain bike trails. You can also speed along the narrow mountain roads with a buggy.
In addition, the international walking route E4 runs through Bulgaria and the Pirin. This route goes from Spain through the Alps, Bulgaria and Greece to the island of Cyprus.

Do you want to spend the night at a campsite in the mountains with a tent? This is also possible at the Banderitsa Camping, for example, which is located along the road and close to the ski slopes of Bansko, in the middle of nature and the Pirin mountains!

The mountains and nature around Bansko have so much to offer and there is so much to do, that there is something for everyone, whether you like outdoor activities, the city or peace and quiet!
